Carrie
Hope Fletcher is an award winning musical theatre actress and author. She also has her own YouTube channel. This year Carrie won the What’s On Stage
Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance in The Addams
Family. Extremely talented Carrie’s
debut album - When The Curtain Falls features twelve of her own personal favourite
songs mostly from musicals. This
collection of songs is fresh, vibrant and definitely not a run of the mill
album from a star of musical theatre.
Many artists from musical theatre release albums that are good but have
the same old songs on them. Carrie has
plumped for less well-known songs with a few old favourites thrown in. All of the songs on the album have been given
a bit of a makeover and have a distinct jazz flavour about them. Carrie’s vocals are strong, powerful and
quite breath-taking to listen to. She
can really belt out a tune there is no doubt about that. It is obvious that Carrie is passionate about
the songs on this album. She grew up
listening to and obsessing over these songs.
The album starts with Journey To
The Past from Anastasia. This is an
upbeat song with strong vocals and bold instrumentation. This song encourages you to turn the volume
up high and sing along at the top of your voice. A rousing opening number that really sets the
tone for the rest of the album. What It Means To Be A Friend is from 13
The Musical. A lovely song about
friendship and what it means to be a friend.
Again, Carrie’s vocals really shine.
The third song on the album is the haunting ballad Burn from Hamilton. This is
such a powerful song. Carrie’s vocals
really lend themselves to this emotional number. Burn
is a passionate song that builds in emotion as it progresses. This version of the song has been given a slight
makeover. The instrumentation has more
of a laid back jazz feel, which allows Carrie’s vocals to take centre
stage. Definitely a highlight of the
album because it highlights all of Carrie’s vocal range. Times
Are Hard For Dreamers is a beautiful song from Amelie. Like Burn
previously this song is emotive and this emotion is captured perfectly in
Carrie’s heart-warming vocals. This song
really tugs are your heartstrings.
Carrie’s vocals are so tender and pure it is hard not to shed at least
one tear listening to this lovely song. I Dreamed A Dream from Les Miserables
just had to be on this debut album from Carrie.
Having appeared in the musical herself there was no way that there wasn’t
going to be a song from the show on the album.
I Dreamed A Dream is such a
powerful, beautiful song. It is also a
very iconic song. Carrie makes this song
her own putting plenty of power into her vocals. No One Else
from Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 is quite a classical
sounding song. Carrie’s vocals really
come into their own on this song. You
can feel the energy as she sings. Summertime from Porgy & Bess is one
of Carrie’s all time favourite songs. Doesn’t
everyone just love the laid-back melody of this classic song? Carrie gives this song a dusting down and
makes it sound fresh and new whilst retaining the quaintness of the original
song. Gorgeous vocals really bring this
song to life. Just Keep Moving The Line is from NBC’s Smash. Carrie really puts her all into this
dramatic, passionate song. The energy
Carrie creates with her vocals is quite stunning. Somewhere
That’s Green from Little Shop Of Horrors is another lovely choice for the
album. A great song that really suits
Carrie’s vocal style. Let It Go from Frozen just had to be on
this album. Carrie has the perfect voice
for singing this powerful, epic song. Again,
this song has been slightly jazzed up giving it a slightly different feel to
the original. This is in no way a bad
thing. It sounds amazing. Carrie has the vocals to really belt this
song out and fans of Frozen will not be disappointed. You Matter To Me from Waitress The Musical
sees Carrie joined on vocals by her good friend Oliver Ormson. This song is magical and a lovely duet. This for me was another highlight of the
album. Definitely a song to play more
than once. Carrie and Oliver’s vocals
really complement each other wonderfully.
The album ends all too soon with a song from Disney’s Hercules – I Won’t Say (I’m In Love). This is a perfect song to end the album on
because it is lively, powerful and quite uplifting. Carrie’s debut album ticks all of the right
boxes for fans of musicals and of Carrie herself. This collection of songs is bold, bright and
enjoyable to listen to. There are plenty
of gems on the album and Carrie gets plenty of opportunities to show off her
incredible vocals and her wonderful vocal range. To pick a favourite song on this album would
be quite hard as they are all excellent and a joy to listen to. Most definitely an album to play over and
over and over again!!!

Relatively new to the centre this cafe/tea room offers shoppers a chance to rest and relax whilst sampling a wide array of home baked products and freshly produced baguettes and sandwiches. The setting is informal and chilled. Not vastly huge in size this outlet caters for shoppers who want to sample freshly made produce rather than the mass produced foods other large chains of cafes stock.

Homemade cakes and scones greet you as you walk up to the counter. With tray bakes, cup cakes, larger sliced cakes and scones all freshly made there is bound to be something to tempt you and your family. A lot of the cakes are made on the premises.

If you suffer from a gluten intolerance or have issues with dairy then don't despair as this cafe/tea room caters to your every need. Gluten free cup cakes and a lovely gluten free chocolate cake are often on sale as are gluten free scones. There is also a range of sugar free cakes on sale. If you are a vegetarian or vegan then again this cafe/tea room will do its very best to provide a selection of foods suitable for you. Unlike most food outlets the lovely thing about this establishment is that it doesn't charge the earth for food that is gluten or dairy free. What is often double the price in another cafe remains the same price as the regular food here.

If you prefer savory food then there are a range of sandwiches, baguettes and wraps available each day with specials on the menu board. Again every effort is made to cater to everyone's needs. If you have an intolerance or allergy speak to the friendly staff and they will do their very best to come up with a sandwich that meets your needs. All the sandwiches, baguettes and wraps come with a salad garnish and either a small dish of coleslaw or pasta.

In more recent weeks and with winter coming thick and fast there has been the welcome addition of soup to the menu. All of the soup is home made and comes suitable for coeliacs and people with gluten intolerance's. The soups are tasty and come in two sizes of bowl so depending on your appetite you can have a large or small serving.

Cream Teas are available and you can pre-order a High Tea either sweet or savory in advance. Again food intolerance's are taken into consideration. Tables can be reserved in advance for parties or larger gatherings. For reserved parties or High Teas quaint vintage china is used giving you the customer the feeling you are in the country rather than the middle of a busy town.

Tea comes in a pot, enough for two cups. Coffee comes in all the regular styles and can be specifically made to your taste if you tell the staff when ordering. Milk shakes are also on offer and are made to order. A lovely range of pre-made soft drinks are also available from the cold cabinet behind the till. If you prefer a fruit juice or ginger beer then ask the staff about the bottled drinks on offer. More traditional drinks are also available as well as packets of crisps, which can be found near the till.

Children can have a special kids meal so they don't feel left out of the mix. The establishment provides high chairs for babies and young children.

There are daily special offers available all advertised on the menu board.

If you need a cake for a special occasion then you can order a cake from the cafe/tea room. Examples of the cakes that have been previously made are available to view on the walls of the cafe/tea room. Take a look at the Elvis inspired cup cakes or the flowered wedding cakes that have been made for previous customers.

As this is a new establishment it is still growing and developing. Customer feedback is important to the staff. Staff are happy to hear what customers think would sell well or do well or what they would like to see in the cafe/tea room. Just recently they have started selling jacket potatoes with a range of different fillings.

The staff are young and friendly. Always happy to help and give advice and details of foods for sale. No question is too small. This is a family run business where high standards are important.

Overall this is a great place to pop into of a lunch time or weekend when you are out and about doing your shopping or taking a break from work. Babies and children are welcome. No one is rushed out the door you are free to chat and linger for as long as you like after eating your cake or sandwich. The food is excellent and the hygiene standards are very high. Tables are thoroughly cleaned after a customer leaves and the floor is swept.
of Taylor Swift this song is simple yet grows on you the more you listen to

Already Gone is a
breezy modern country song with a slight dash of pop mixed in for good measure. Jade’s vocals are strong throughout. Jade’s sound is fresh and youthful yet her
vocals suggest something entirely different.
They have a very mature sound.
This is a lovely song, catchy and easy to listen to.

Seventeen year old Jade Sanders is a talented
singer/songwriter from South Florida. Jade has been writing songs since she was ten
years old. Jades vocals sound like those
of someone who has had a vast experience of life not of someone so young. In her vocals there is a strong bluesy sound,
which transcends into her music. Shotgun
Rider is a modern country song with heavy rocky backing instrumentation. Jade’s vocals are never overshadowed. Powerful and pleasing on the ear the listener
is quickly drawn into the song. This is
a classy offering with hints of Reba McEntire along with many more modern
country artists. A very enjoyable song
that makes you want to hear more from this young artist.

Nice And Slow is a
modern country song from Dave Hangley.
Typical of many modern country songs Dave’s vocals are pleasant on the
ear. A fast up-beat song with a strong
melody. Born in New Jersey Dave blends
folk and country into his music giving it a strong sound. This song could easily compete against the
likes of songs by Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan and Brantley Gilbert. It has a polished sound and is definitely
radio friendly. A likeable song that
shows the vocal potential of this new country singer.

worth a listen this song is catchy and definitely radio friendly. It is also very classy and shows off Joanna’s
vocals to the full. This song blends

song. In Joanna’s vocals there are hints
of Carrie Underwood. Joanna’s vocals are
strong and powerful, really giving the song volume and depth. One listen isn’t enough to fully appreciate

If you are looking for an album of well
written delicately sung songs then look no further!!!!

Paul McClure is a talented
singer/songwriter from Rutland. His third solo album SMILING FROM THE FLOOR UP features ten songs
that speak to listeners through their lyrics and gentle vocals. Long Gone Out Of Here has a wonderful
acoustic sound. A great opening track this song is lyrically strong and puts
plenty of emphasis on Paul’s wonderful vocals. There is a unique rawness to
Paul’s voice, which hasn’t been erased by production. Pollyanna is a quirky song, which blends a touch of blues with
Paul’s more traditional acoustic sound. The lyrics tell an interesting story,
which is quite dark and twisted. Listening to this song I feel like I am
immersed in an episode of Twin Peaks. Hannah Elton-Wall harmonises on the vocals giving the song a
ghostly haunting sound. This song certainly lures you in for a much closer
listen. Lost And Found is a slightly
more up-tempo song with a strong beat. For
You sees the pace slow once again. This is a delightful song, which puts
all the emphasis on Paul’s heady vocals. More of a ballad this song is
reminiscent of James Taylor in his hey day. Any
Number You Like (As Long As Its Four) seems the album take a complete
change of tempo. This is a rousing sing a long song with the piano taking pride
of place. Song 6 is a gentle
lyrically driven song. The lyrics are expressive yet quite simplistic. A
charming song that goes to show less is quite often more! Keep It Together has echoes of James Taylor once again. Another
vocally driven acoustic song that is classy but not over done. The injection of
the female harmony gives the song added depth. Hannah Elton-Wall’s vocals blend
perfectly with Paul’s creating a wonderful atmospheric sound. The title song Smiling From The Floor Up features some
stunning instrumentation provided by Joe Bennett on the lap steel. This is a
really laid back acoustic song infused with a slight hint of blues. Although
this is a rather short song it is still breath taking and leaves you as a
listener wanting to hear more. Lola Rose
is a quirky old fashioned sounding song featuring a huge array of
instrumentation. The album ends on a strong note with another lyrically driven
slow song Moments Lost. This song has
poignant lyrics that are both emotive and magical. Quite a sad song to end on
but also one that makes you ponder and think about your own life. All those
precious moments that you have squandered and all those significant events you
witnessed but will never get the chance to see again. These lyrics are raw and
powerful yet come across as simple and unrefined. All ten songs on this album
are obviously written from the heart and sung with grace. Paul’s voice is tender and captivating always
luring the listener in. A beautiful mix of heady acoustic ballads and quirky
original songs. The highlights are
almost too numerous to mention but there are two stand out songs on this album Pollyanna and Moments Lost. Paul is not only a great vocalist as evidenced here
he is also a genius with words. His lyrics read like poetry or dark twisted
stories. All in all this is a wonderful example of good acoustic music written
and sung well.

Poetic lyrics turned into wonderful
songs

Daniel Goodman is a talented
singer/songwriter whose songs set poetic lyrics to music. His latest offering
is a classy four track EP featuring songs that showcase a new side to Daniel’s
music. This EP was recorded at the world renowned Magic Shop Recording Studio
and produced by Mario J McNulty, who has produced music for the likes of David
Bowie and Lou Reed. Unlike Daniel’s full length albums, which are largely
acoustic in sound, this EP introduces a mix of musical instruments. There is a
large dose of 1970’s folk/rock blended into the musical style of the songs
offered here yet Daniel always manages to retain his unique vocals. With all
four songs self-penned there are plenty of lyrics to get excited about. Keys To The Kingdom starts off slowly
and builds into a dramatic chorus. The music also fluctuates giving the song
depth and the song character. This is a rocky song with strong vocals that
manage to ride above the rousing music. Daniel’s vocals are rough, spirited and
rather charming on the ear. This song is great to listen to with the volume
turned up high. Long Time Waiting is a much slower offering. Quite charming
Daniel’s vocals are raw and emotive. The musical backing is laid back allowing
the vocals and lyrics to take centre stage. This is a beautiful song that
really tugs at the heart strings. This song is the closest thing on the EP to
the style of music on Daniel’s previous released albums. Orphan’s Song sees the tempo go up a gear. This is a really rousing
rocky pop/folk song. The lyrics are really clever and well constructed, also quite
succinct in places. Listeners will feel themselves being transported back to
the days of Woodstock upon listening to this song. If this song doesn’t have you dancing
then I don’t know what will! Sons Of Cain
completes the EP. This is a heavy song with great instrumentation. Another
song that feels like it wouldn’t have been out of place in the 70’s. Once again
it is Daniel’s unique and raw vocals that grab you. He manages to tell a story
just by altering his tone of voice. A great song to end on, you really feel
like you have been treated to some excellent music upon listening to this EP.
It is a shame that this is only an EP and not a full length album as there is
plenty to wet your appetite here and make you long to hear more. SH

As I Sit Here Aging is another lovely example of how music and vocals can
work in harmony to create a dramatic passion filled sound. Luke’s vocals are powerful and full of
zeal. This song has a little more pop
infused into its organic sound however it still sounds unique.

I Am Done is
slightly more up-tempo than most of Luke’s other songs. Luke’s vocals are angst ridden on this
vocally driven track. With injections of
rock Luke proves his vocals are really up to belting out a powerful
number.

For The Road showcases Luke’s mesmerizing vocals.
Luke’s vocals need to be heard to be really appreciated. This is a strong vocally driven song. Luke’s transitions from angelic high pitched
vocals to angst ridden lines are seamless.

vocals. Strong lyrics belted out with
gruff vocals give this song purpose.
Here Luke proves how dynamic his vocal style is. Quite a change from his other songs this is evidence
of how versatile Luke can be in his musical styles.

I Don’t Hold You Anymore highlights Luke’s striking vocals once again. Luke’s soft, charismatic sound is a pure joy
to listen to. Always sounding refreshing
and captivating. This song puts Luke’s
vocals before the instrumentation.
Something he does on most of his numbers, always allowing his vocals to
take centre stage.

Working Title is another song that allows Luke’s vocal range to shine and shine it

of Luke at his best. A lovely slow song
with beautiful lyrics.

Listening to Luke’s music is
exhausting as you find yourself wrapped up in the lyrics of the songs as well
as being fully engaged in the vocals, which are at times beyond belief. An outstandingly talented young man, Luke’s
skills as a singer and a songwriter can only grow and grow. As a musician Luke is extremely talented. Luke’s slower songs are perhaps his best as
they convey more emotion and perhaps offer up a little more of Luke’s
soul.

David Newbould is a talented singer/songwriter whose music
has appeared on many popular television shows.
His music mixes country and rock together to create an exciting
sound. David’s vocals are powerful,
interesting and intense. Although not a
household name David enjoys a large following of devoted fans. David’s latest offering is an EP featuring
four songs. Although short in length
this is a lovely listen. The opening
song and title track The Devil Is His
Name is rocky country at its very best.
David’s vocals are edgy and have plenty of depth. This song offers up plenty of atmosphere and
character and would be perfect for the soundtrack of a show like True
Detective. Although the instrumentation
is rousing David’s vocals are never overshadowed. Love
You Like I Don’t Know How is a slow country song. Charming and very organic in sound, this song
is certainly beautiful to listen to.
David’s vocals are full of passion and sound earthy and raw. As the music fades you find yourself longing
for more. Standing At The Crossroads Too Long sees a change in tempo. This song is a strong country/rock song with
a hint of blues thrown in for good measure.
David’s vocal style brings to mind John Mellencamp or Bruce Springsteen
blended with Bob Dylan. A powerful song
with great lyrics. This song highlights
how easy it is for David to switch from intense to rousing rocky vocals. Clam
Bake City sees the EP draw to a close.
David’s vocals are warm and velvety.
A slow song with a great story weaved into the lyrics. As with Love
You Like I Don’t Know How this song
is beautiful to listen to. Overall this
EP is outstanding, every track is worthy of its place. David’s vocals bring the songs to life leaving
you wanting to hear more. Love You Like I Don’t Know How and Clam Bake City certainly have the wow factor. Ben Rose is a talented singer/songwriter . Coming from a musical family his music combines folk, pop and country together to create something rather unique and interesting. His songs are well crafted and Ben’s vocals are raw and passionate. Night Of Our Lives opens this five track EP. Ben’s vocals take centre stage on this acoustic sounding indie pop infused song. Strong lyrics make this song interesting and give it an added depth. Crazy is a slightly heavier song, which again showcases Ben’s unique vocal style. The lyrics create a vivid image of the story Ben is telling. Angel On The Highway sees the mood lighten again. Ben’s vocals are softer and punctuated by some wonderful guitar playing. Nothing is over done here. The raw acoustic sound that echoes through this EP is what will attract listeners to Ben’s music. How About Tonight has a faster tempo. A catchy melody and Ben’s raw sound give this song a definite edge. This song has quite a strong Americana influence. Ben’s music would not sound out of place on a bleak American drama. There are hints of Jack White in Ben’s style and sound. The final track on this EP is entitled Better Man. An enjoyable slow song that relies heavily on Ben’s vocals to carry listeners to the end of the EP. The five tracks on this EP are well worth listening to, they create atmosphere and give listeners a chance to delve into a world of raw organic music.mercy faithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17971152918659631318noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4023174605827923677.post-60625144980232183162016-02-21T03:06:00.001-08:002016-02-21T03:11:36.990-08:00Paint The Town Red by Dirt Road Angels

If you are a fan of modern country music then look no
further than the new EP by Dirt Road Angels, a group of five female singer
songwriters from Canada. Shawna Lynne, Shila Marie, Danita, Karen Claypool and
Dahlia Wakefield formed their all girl group in 2013. They went onto release a
compilation album shortly after featuring songs from all five girls. This
latest release sees the girls show off their wondrous harmonies as they join
forces to sing six songs together. All five ladies have incredible voices and
this is reflected on PAINT THE TOWN RED. Make Me Wanna is an up-tempo
modern country song. The melody is catchy and the vocals are strong. At times
it is hard to believe that there are five girls singing their voices blend
together so effortlessly. Memories is a beautiful song, slightly slower
in tempo. This song has lovely lyrics and an old time country feel yet the
voices remain thoroughly modern. The title track Paint The Town Red is a
rocky modern country song in the style of early Miranda Lambert. Radio friendly
this song has all the makings of a big country hit. Karma is another
rock influenced country song. The music is heavy and the vocals once again
punchy and strong. Best Friend is a lovely country song; the vocals are
showcased with toned down backing music. The lyrics are so truthful giving the
song an innocent feel. This is perhaps the highlight of this EP. Blended
together on a slower track the girls really do sound angelic. Back Around
The Mountain sees the mood pick up pace once more. The final offering on
this EP is a modern country song with an old time country feel. As solo singers
all five ladies have very different sounds and styles put those together and
you have one top class sounding EP.

I like the variations between the fast and slow songs. You all have such lovely voices and your voices blend so well together. It is lovely listening to you as one. There are some songs on there that I instantly thought of as hits in their own right. They had the sound of some of the songs floating around the country charts right now. I love your blend of modern country with an older more traditional sound as well.

Sunken eyes, the colour faded, dried
lips, cracked and sore

Cheek bones protruding where once
there was flesh, pale and pasty like a piece of unbaked dough

My head an odd egg shape no longer
covered in layers of pretty auburn hair

My ribs on show for all to see, as
easy to count as one, two, three

My arms black and blue, dented and
bruised – wounded soldiers in this war on me

My stomach, which was once, deemed
to big, now a saggy mess of unwanted flesh

My shoulders droop under the
weight of stress, my legs barely support me they are so frail and thin

My wedding ring adorns a stand on
the dresser, a reminder of all that I have lost

My heart is broken into two, loss
and grief ripping at its very being

My wardrobe once full of elegant
dresses and the finest of suits replaced now with standard issue grey tracksuits
and comfy fitting jumpers

High heels buried at the back, not
much need for those any more

Photos of the life I once had
thrown into a box on the floor – I cannot look at the painful reminders, the
wounds cut too deeply

Once I was happy and madly in
love, I had a full life ahead of me with a man who offered me the world on a
plate

He promised before friends and
family to love me in sickness and in health, to take the good times a long with
the bad

When the doctors told me I was ill
he stood there in shock, literally frozen to the spot

As my world came crashing down
around me I didn’t think things could get any worse

I tried to be bright and pretend
things were ok, smiled in all the right places and kept my chin up

The doctors said my diagnosis
wasn’t a death sentence things had come along way

Drugs and determination were the
key to beating this evil thing that had invaded my body and destroyed all the
good in me

The questions were endless, the
appointments tiresome

I guess something had to give!

I had to resign from my job, give
my carer prospects up, life was permanently on hold

For a few months he stood by me
watching me fall apart

He walked around like a robot
saying and doing all of the right things but the love we once shared in
abundance just wasn’t there

One day he was my husband the next
just a man in a faded photo smiling without a care

I have seen the statistics; there
is a good chance I will beat this cancer

I touch the glass, my haunted
reflection – this is me, there is still life in me yet

A Pilots War

We sit in a small room playing
cards, reading a well thumbed book or pondering fruitlessly over a crossword
puzzle, each with our own mixed emotions

A ringing phone shattering the
silence, we all run to our planes – scramble is the fancy name

A synchronised dance of men in
flying suits

Chairs fall to the floor as we
leave, card games half finished, drinks left untouched

Some names on the board never to
be seen again

They count us out with cheers of
good luck and see you soon

We are up and away in minutes

No time to waste

Like tiny ants we march across the
sky

For some this will be their very
last outing

Its all down to the roll of the
dice, no one is beyond death

Alone in our cockpits we don’t
have time to think just to react

Cold and isolated the cockpit of a
Spitfire or Hurricane feels like a lonely home

Guns fire lighting up the night
sky – it’s a strategic game of cat and mouse

Hunt or be hunted

We throw our planes this way and
that, diving away from falling debris, all the time praying we are not hit

Sometimes you get separated from
the crowd

A blanket of darkness washes over
you, disorientates you until you go mad with fear

Concentration is vital, watch the
dials or face certain death

It’s what we have trained for, our
destiny

For some the training is so brief
it’s a wonder they get off of the ground at all

Brave men risking everything for
their country, serving the men and women left behind

The cruelty of war is all around –
crashed planes, burnt out with no chance of escape, buildings reduced to piles
of smouldering rubble

Innocent men, women and children
displaced, grieving loved ones, praying for a swift end to the endless bombing

The fear of what else is to come
grips the nation

As countries capitulate we fight
on with our heads held high

Adrenaline kicks in and we act
like robots, automatic responses drilled into our minds

We aren’t special; we aren’t heroes’
just ordinary folk doing a job that needs to be done

For many to fly a plane was just a
distant boyhood dream now here we are up in the sky

Defending our country for all it
is worth

We go up at all times of the day
or night, always praying for good weather conditions

Fighting the enemy is one thing to
have to fight the weather as well is a frustrating hazard we could well do
without

Our lives are expendable it is the
bigger picture that matters

We do not serve to get medals, to
get recognition, to get our photos in the paper

We do not crave adulation from the
wider public – how can you celebrate killing a fellow human being for that is
what we have done?

Our greatest goal is to live, to
see our families again, our children

To watch them grow up in a country
they are proud to call home

Many of us are barely men at all;
we haven’t tasted but a tiny drip of life

We haven’t proposed marriage to a
girl, bought our own house – all that is but a dream waiting to come true

Our friends and colleagues die,
picked off one by one

Some only last a day, hours even

A lost plane, brutal injuries that
result in death, burns that scar a mans body for life

Men who parachute out of a dying
plane only to be shot at and killed by the enemy

Some parachute too late and crash
land into the world below, others drown when they are forced to bale out over
the sea

We look for our missing men when
time allows but often there is no trace, it is as if the earth has swallowed
them whole, taken them some place where no further harm can come to them

Names written on a chalk board so
easily rubbed out, replaced and rubbed out again

We cannot allow ourselves to
grieve or we would never get out of bed

So many have gone leaving behind
broken families and heartbroken friends

A new name, a new fresh face
replaces them eager to do their bit for the cause

They cannot replace the men we
have lost no matter how many jokes we share with them, no matter how many tales
we tell them

We come back in to land battered
and bruised – mentally as well as physically exhausted

A few are missing; some we saw
meet their maker others vanished into the night sky never to be heard of again

The men on the ground patch up our
wounded planes as best they can – working miracles all hours of the day and
night, maybe they are the silent heroes of this merciless war?

We count up our achievements, say
a silent prayer for those lost and head off for a stiff drink or a well earned
sleep

Many sleep fitfully as nightmares
creep in

In a few hours maybe less we will
be doing this all again, the bombardment is endless as is our urge to win

We are but a few, an army of men
pulled from every corner of the globe fighting with everything we have to
obliterate an unwelcome foe

We cannot dwell on our
achievements as for every enemy plane shot down a man has most probably died or
at least been wounded

He is a man with family and
friends just like us, just like us he is doing a job

One day roles into another, then
another – the faces change but the objective always remains the same

Scared is a new
song by Tamsin. This is a lyrically strong song that will resonate with many
people. Catchy and upbeat this song focuses on Tamsin’s vocals, which are raw

and vocally.

Falling is a
gorgeous folk song with a strong indie sound. Tamsin’s vocals are powerful and
engaging on this quite anthemic song. Tamsin’s vocals are never over shadowed
by instrumentation allowing listeners to get the most out of her wonderful
vocals. A really striking song that stands out because it is so good.

vocals. Here again Tamsin’s vocals are the highlight of the song. Although
polished her vocals still sound raw and unrestricted. Tamsin gives each songs
she sings a character of their own. They take on their own identity, which
allows them to stand on their own as individual things of greatness and beauty.

Tangled Up In Love is
a catchy folk song infused with a bluesy/roots sound. This song is quite
soulful and Tamsin’s vocals belay this with a rich velvety sound throughout the
chorus of the song. The remainder of the song shows off Tamsin’s raw uncut
vocals. A real mixed bag of sounds and genres this song is interesting and
quite captivating. It is a real shame when this song comes to an end as you
want to hear more, much more.

Tired Hands is a lovely folk song brought to life by Tamsin’s
earthy vocals. Once again quite raw in sound Tamsin’s vocals give this song
plenty of depth and character. mercy faithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17971152918659631318noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4023174605827923677.post-56415716438446915782014-06-14T11:06:00.001-07:002014-06-14T11:06:07.339-07:00Tamsin Quin - Where My Footprints Will Stay EP

A heady mix of folk
and acoustic music finished off with a dash of blues and some intense and
impassioned vocals

Tamsin Quin is a hugely talented singer/songwriter from the
South West of England. Tamsin’s songs combine raw exuberance with quirky lyrics
and heartfelt words. Her songs portray a natural talent for putting real life
down in words. A heady mix of folk and acoustic styles Tamsin’s vocals are
refreshing and distinctive. Her vibrant personality comes across in all that
she sings as does her passion for life and all that it throws at her. Her songs
are personal, like browsing through a young girl’s journal, but it is that
personal touch that makes her music so great and worth listening to. Tamsin’s
EP offers listeners a glimpse into the word of Tamsin Quin and all the talent
she has to offer. One listen just won’t be enough as this collection of six
songs is truly addictive on the ear! Bow
And Arrow opens the EP with a bang. A catchy chorus and wonderful vocals
along with an intoxicating mix of folk and pop give this song tremendous
energy. Demons is a sophisticated
folk song with a strong blues feel. Tamsin’s vocals are powerful, charming and
full of character. There could easily be comparisons between Tamsin and the
hugely successful folk singer Kate Rusby. Their vocals belay some similarities
but Tamsin’s bluesy overtones give her songs a new depth. Tamsin effortlessly
tells a story through her changes of tempo and obvious enthusiasm for the songs
that she sings. Work Is Not Life is a
slow raw song; with hardly any instrumentation allowing Tamsin’s naturally
gifted vocals to shine. The pace of the song picks up slightly towards the end
then sinks back to its original slow pace. A lovely transition! Backwards is a wonderful acoustic folk
song with heavy emphasis on vocals. Stripped right back Tamsin’s vocals show
confidence and passion. Filled with emotion this song is of the highest quality
throughout. Homelands is a wonderful
folk song with a strong acoustic sound. A slow song full of angst and filled
with poetic lyrics that are so succinct. Been
So Long ends the EP on a wonderfully bluesy note. Tamsin’s vocals are so
intense on this rather soulful final song. Once again this song is lyrically
strong. This is a charming collection of songs all of a very high standard and
brought to life by Tamsin’s effortless and genuinely amazing vocals.

Five talented female singer-songwriters showcase their

Dirt Road Angels is a project that sees five hugely talented
female Canadian singer-songwriters come together on one album. Each of the five
artists performs three tracks showcasing their diverse musical interests and
styles. With a wealth of experience in
the music industry these artists are definitely a force to be reckoned with.
All of the songs featured are originals.
The overall feel of the album is country but country mixed with other
genres. The mixed album is kick started with three songs by Shawna Lynne who is
more of a traditional modern country singer. Shawna has performed all over Canada
and has opened for many top country acts. Kick
Down The Door is a high octane fast tempo song. Shawna’s vocals are strong
and easy on the ear. This song is catchy and has some lovely instrumentation,
which only serves to enhance the quality of the song. The Dancing Queen is a much slower offering with delicate vocals.
Written by Larry Wayne Clark, Shelly Rann and Marc Rosa this is a charming song
with heartfelt lyrics. Shawna puts a lot of emotion into the vocals. An
outstanding track! I Wish I Was A Train really showcases Shawna’s traditional country
sound. Once again delightful vocals make this song a joy to listen to. Karen Claypool is the second artist to be
featured on the CD. Karen’s vocals are distinctive and really interesting.
Karen’s music is more pop than country. Titanic
was co-written with Rob Hewes and is a pop song with an easy listening
sound. Done is a high quality song
that really stands out. Lovely vocals, which are quite delicate – never
overpowering. This song has a strong country/pop feel and is worthy of a high
chart placing. Rewind has an edgy
vibe, another strong offering from this talented young lady who sounds a cross
between Taylor Swift and Suzanne Vega. Country/rock singer Dahlia Wakefield is
the third singer-songwriter to be showcased. Dahlia’s vocals are strong and
always entertaining. Unsatisfied is a
powerful rocky country song. Dahlia sounds a little like Carrie Underwood on
this extremely catchy high class modern country song. Beautiful illustrates how Dahlia can sing both rocky up-tempo songs
with class and then swap easily to a delicate charming slow song with angelic
vocals. Warming vocals and stripped back instrumentation make this song so
delightful. All The Way To Heaven is
a pop infused country song. This song is a glorious vocally driven song, a
perfect example of what a strong modern country song should sound like! Shila
Marie grew up influenced by the music of top selling artists like Dolly Parton
and Shania Twain. Shila Marie has a distinctive vocal style. Her vocals are raw
and unpolished. Whirlwind is edgy and
blends modern country and pop together effortlessly. Her vocals engage the
listener because they sound fresh and natural. Love Can’t Be Denied is a slow moody country song. Once again it is
the vocals that stand out and give the song depth and character. A delicate
emotive song co-written by Shila Marie this is perhaps the main highlight of
the whole album. Truly beautiful this song captures the heart and brings a tear
to the eye. Be There is a heavier
song with a modern country feel to it. All three of Shila Marie’s songs are
outstanding and so unique mainly due to her classy vocals. Danita is the final
artist on this rather impressive album. All five artists deserve their place on
the CD as they all bring something new and interesting to the world of music.
Danita is known for combining rock with country to create an edgy upbeat sound.
Ripped Jeans is a powerful rock
infused country song. Leaning more towards rock than country this song needs to
be played with the volume turned up high. Danita has strong powerful vocals
that are never consumed by the blasting instrumentation. Co-written by Danita
it is worth paying attention to the lyrics of this song as quite a story
unfolds throughout the course of the song. Not everyone’s cup of tea, this song
is not for the faint hearted. Rare Bird is
Danita’s second offering and a pleasant one at that. In complete contrast to Ripped Jeans this is a slow offering
with an interesting sound. Worthy of more than one airing. I Did It For Love brings the album to a close. Although there are
fifteen songs on the album time seems to fly and the ending comes all too soon.
I Did It For Love is a crazy, heavy
rock/country song. A really punchy song to end the album on. All in all it is
obvious that all five of these ladies are really talented in their respective
fields of music. There are so many stand out songs on this album and much
praise can be heaped on each individual singer-songwriter. A very worthy
project this album will hopefully encourage music fans to look out for further
albums by all five of the featured artists in the months to come.

The EP kicks off with All

polished and chart worthy. This is a wonderful opening offering highlighting Brittany’s talents as a
country singer. This is more country than pop and has a subtle deepness that
only becomes evident upon the second or third listen. Summer Rain is an up tempo country/pop song, again leaning more on
country than pop. Brittany’s vocals are cheery and easy on the ear making this song a pleasure to

a classy modern country song in the style of early Taylor Swift. Brittany seems to have quite
a striking vocal ability. Her vocals are stylish and have something quite
charming about them that makes listeners want to listen to more than just one
song. Mr Right sees the tempo slip a
notch. This is another catchy modern country song. Here Brittany’s vocals are lighter
and breezy. Back From Your Goodbye is
a rockier country/pop song. Brittany’s vocals on this
song seem to take on more of an edge. I
Didn’t Think That is a slower country song. Once again Brittany’s vocals remind me
of Faith Hill. House Of Cards brings
the EP to a close. This is a live offering and shows a different side to Brittany’s musical and vocal
style. This song has a much heavier rocky/country feel. The lyrics are strong
and Brittany’s vocals are solid and confident. All in all this is a debut offering
that highlights Brittany McLamb’s potential as a country/pop singer. The songs
here are good and pleasurable to listen to. Brittany’s vocals show a
great deal of maturity and power, which should serve her well for the future. mercy faithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17971152918659631318noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4023174605827923677.post-10812155757240676432013-07-28T04:52:00.001-07:002013-07-28T04:54:08.361-07:00Sarah Murray Song Review

Sarah Murray is an exciting
and extremely talented singer/songwriter and producer from Cork, Ireland. Having performed with many bands over the years
Sarah is now starting to emerge as a solo female performer. With two songs
released so far Sarah is busy recording and writing new material. Sarah’s main
passion in life is music and her dream is to release a full length solo album,
a dream that is looking ever more like a reality with the attention she is
currently picking up from the music industry. Sarah’s sound is an atmospheric
one. Her vocals are strong and have a vivid character all of their own. Some
might compare her sound to that of The Corrs. Although there are similarities
Sarah’s music has a lot more depth, which is mostly down to her striking vocals.
Sarah’s first two solo releases effortlessly blend pop and folk together
throwing in a bit of rock for good measure.

Ferris Wheel is a really
upbeat pop/folk song with strong lyrics written by Sarah. Definitely worthy of
a high chart placing Ferris Wheel shows off Sarah’s unique vocal talents, which
are spot on. This song has a real edge and plenty of angst. Its catchy beat
gives this song a stand out feel. Sarah’s vocals are forceful but never over
the top. A real joy to listen to this song is a must for fans of good quality
pop/folk music. Sarah’s vocals have similar qualities to those of Andrea Corr
and inevitable comparisons will be drawn between the two but Sarah for me is
more a mix of Andrea Corr’s luscious harmonies and Dolores O’Riordan’s angst
and power. The end result is something outstanding and really mesmerising.

lingering instrumentation and Sarah's stunning vocals, which captivate and

and really engages the listener. Listening to Sarah’s rendition of this
self-penned song you can feel yourself drifting off to an intimate bar or café

A talented singer with lots of potential for the future

Alicia Smith is a very talented young singer born on a military base in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Alicia seems
extremely grounded and writes and sings more for the emotional connection of
the lyrics of a song or the eyes of an audience than for praise and plaudits.
Naturally gifted when it comes to writing songs Alicia uses her emotions as a
platform to write great songs that she can share with others. Her 2011 offering
WELCOME TO REALITY is a punchy country/rock/pop offering, which showcases her
vocal talents as well as her song writing skills. Welcome To Reality kicks off her five track EP in rousing style. An
extremely rocky song with a bluesy country vibe Alicia’s vocals are strong,
powerful and edgy. This song really packs a loud harsh punch. Pretending You’re Mine sees the mood
slow enormously. This is a gentler ballad heavily infused with country music.
Strong lyrics and vocals give this song depth and class. Married Tonight is a modern country song with a strong pop
influence. Alicia’s vocals are quite outstanding with hints of many modern
country singers within them plus maybe a bit of Shelby Lynne on her bluesy
numbers. What We Gonna Do is a strong
country/pop song. Alicia’s vocals are slightly richer and velvety on this
classy song. This song is certainly strong and perhaps the best song on the EP?
You’ll Be Alright brings the EP to a
close. Another top quality country/pop song. This song has echoes of an older
style of country, which really suits Alicia’s vocal style and range. Here there
are hints of The Dixie Chicks. All in all this is an interesting EP that blends
country with pop quite effortlessly. There is good quality music here and
Alicia should use this EP as a platform to build from. mercy faithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17971152918659631318noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4023174605827923677.post-19323263420560620452013-04-28T02:37:00.002-07:002013-04-28T02:37:12.938-07:00Kalisa Ewing song review

Kalisa Ewing is a wonderful young lady who writes well
constructed and meaningful lyrics and has the voice of an angel quite
literally. Her vocals are a delicate concoction of haunting emotive vocal
ranges and powerfully strong rocky overtones. In her songs the lyrics are
honest and raw. Each of Kalisa’s songs tells a story enhanced by her charming
vocals. Kalisa was raised just outside of Nashville
and had penned her first song by the tender age of eleven. Kalisa learnt the
art of writing poems in order to enhance and strengthen her song writing
skills. Listen to her fine tuned lyrics and you can tell that learning paid off
for her big time.

Where Did Your Love Go
is a lovely country song with fresh country vocals. A strong song enhanced
by Kalisa’s vocals, which are really rich and also quite soft and gentle.
Definitely a potential hit given the right amount of airplay and exposure. This
is modern country at its very best. Classy, with depth and quality – this is
far from the manufactured country pop that fills the country charts right now.

On A Roll is a
beautiful country song. Kalisa’s vocals
are really strong and have power and passion in them. There is a refreshing
tenderness which makes this song sound quite emotive.

Taking The Heart Out
Of Everything is a slightly more rousing number. This song still has a
strong country influence though.
Kalisa’s vocals have power and strength here, which gives this song a
rocky feel.

Bang is one of
those songs you will want to listen to over and over again. Kalisa’s vocals are
awesome on this haunting track. Delicate and emotive this song is really lovely
to listen to. The lyrics are spot on and worth a close listen. Kalisa easily
blends modern country with a slight hint of pop.

Love Trial is
another pure country song. Kalisa’s vocals are infectious and really quite
stunning, intoxicating and emotive. There are touches of Emmylou Harris, during
the middle of her carer, every so often in Kalisa’s vocal style.

Whatever is a
slightly more pop than country song. This is definitely a radio friendly song
that could do really well for this stunning country artist. The lyrics are
strong and Kalisa’s vocals are definitely powerful. The chorus is catchy and
overall this is a classy modern sounding song that has the potential to be an
enormous hit!

Kalisa Ewing is a wonderfully evocative singer with an
obvious amount of talent both as a songwriter and vocalist. She has the perfect vocals for a country
artist and she can write quite stunning songs that will stand the test of time.
I personally cannot wait for this awesome singer to release an album. On the
merit of the songs above I am sure it will be one of those albums that easily
warrants a ten out of ten!

Growing up in a household full of music the trio decided to take their blend of
country/folk to Nashville. The end
result was their first ever EP. With wonderful harmonies their three voices fit
together perfectly. The Story is a
lovely country song with a strong modern feel. The music is light never
intruding on their vocals making it a delight to listen to. Talk Me Down, Take Me Home is a more
traditional country song with a hint of the Dixie Chicks mixed with Nickel
Creek. The vocals are spot on. Stupid is
a modern country song with more of a pop feel than the previous two songs on
the EP. The Last Song is a wonderful
country song with a traditional country vibe running through it. Upbeat and
energised this is a great song. Four songs aren’t really enough to judge this
new trio. It is obvious that all three have great vocal ability and combined
their sound is strong and emotive. Where they fit in the world of country music
is hard to say. Judging by The Last Song I
would suggest following the more traditional country route. I look forward to
hearing a lot more from these future stars.

Alberta. Gotta’ Move On is a delicate country song with beautiful vocals.
This opening number is quite mesmerising, the vocals really engulf you as a
listener and make you long to hear more. A quite outstanding opening number! Something Like Love is another
outstanding song with a strong country feel. Here the vocals are stronger and
full of depth and emotion. Better In Time
is a slightly more up-tempo song than the previous two. Still there is a
strong country feel to this song. Nothin’
Right About Lovin’ You is another classy song, again slow and intense. Timing Is Everything has an old
fashioned sound. The lyrics are worth a close listen. All Of Your Love is a more modern country song with a slight
infusion of pop. Still Loving You sees
the pace slow once again. Another beautiful country song packed full of emotion
and meaning. Can’t Go Back rounds the
album off nicely. This is a good strong country song with polished vocals.
Sometimes there are hints of Rosanne Cash in Kira’s vocals if you listen
closely. At only twenty years of age Kira has a long and promising carer ahead
of her. This is one stunning album full of intense, powerful and charismatic
songs all delivered with outstanding vocal ability and talent.

Australian Holly Denton
has been singing since the tender age of four. Holly is already a talented
singer/songwriter mixing pop and country together to create a wonderful sound.
Holly’s song writing skills are exceptional for one still so young. With her
lyrics Holly can captivate listeners of all ages. Holly’s self titled EP
showcases her wide array of talents and puts her forward as a name and talent
for the future. Chocolate Overdoes proves
what an outstanding song writer Holly really is. Her lyrics are fresh, straight
to the point and so refreshing. This is a country song with a heavy dose of
pop. Holly’s vocals have a natural twang, which makes them interesting and
different. Another Tomorrow is a slow
country song with luscious vocals. There is a touch of angst in Holly’s vocals,
which only adds depth and quality to her music. Puppet Master is a rousing pop/country song. Quirky and catchy this
song is jolly and quite uplifting. The final offering on Holly’s EP is called Walk Naked. Holly’s vocals are slightly
more mature on this folk infused country song. I am reminded here a little of
the hugely talented singer Nanci Griffith in her earlier years. Holly has plenty
of potential as these songs illustrate. She is truly gifted and a real treat to
listen to.
