Jemma Rycroft Song Review

Jemma Rycroft is a rare gem in the world of music today. Her songs fuse together a gentle mix of jazz, blues and pop even adding in for good measure a hint of old country with Jemma's unique vocal talent. Jemma's voice is stunning and different from many you will hear today. Her songs carefully mix old with new creating something beautiful and extremely worth listening to. Jemma's music will slip under your skin as soon as you hear it and before you know it you will be captivated. Haunting vocals that will penetrate even the hardest of hearts and make it melt.Guess I've Got The Blues - This song sounds like one that has been dug out of the music archives, this is a good thing not a criticism of Jemma's music. Jemma's haunting slightly old fashioned sounding voice blended with light instrumentation gives this number a very atmospheric feel like the listener is blowing the dust off of an old vinyl record. The song fuses blues with jazz and creates a really special sound that instantly absorbs the listener and makes them want to hear a lot more. Jemma's voice is addictive and reminds me here on this number of the highly talented and world renowned singer Madeleine Peyroux. There is only one word to describe this song and that is adorable. Not That Kind Of Girl - This is another song with a strong blues feel about it. This song has a very intimate feel about it; it is as if the listener is in the same room as Jemma listening to her do an unplugged show just for them. Jemma's voice is warm and inviting. I like this song because it feels like it has been stripped bare - you can really hear the words and get absorbed in the music and in Jemma's voice. From My Dreams - This song sees Jemma sounding more modern yet her vocals still sound slightly old fashioned. I hear hints of Alanis Morissette in Jemma's musical style whether that is intentional or not it is not a bad thing by any means. There is a dream like quality to Jemma's voice, which follows through this song.I'm For You - This song follows in a similar vain to From My Dreams with a more modern feel to the track both in Jemma's vocal style and in the music. Monday - Jemma's vocals lose their dream like quality on this track. The lyrics are really poignant and blend nicely with the music which hides nicely in the background never overshadowing Jemma's fantastic voice.Jemma Rycroft is a rare gem in the world of music today. In You is a newly posted song on Jemma Rycroft's MySpace page. I cannot quite put my finger on who I am reminded of when listening to this song. There are definitely twinges of Gwen Stefani in Jemma's unique voice. This song has a strong blues feel about it yet it is also a great singer/songwriter 'pop' song. Jemma's voice is powerful and has lost some of its old fashioned sound on this track; this is not a bad thing by any means. Jemma's voice really suits this song, which has a great acoustic feel to it. I heard this song once and I was hooked. The lyrics were catchy in something of an obscure way. I personally like the way this song combines Jemma's vocals, stripped bare, and her guitar nothing else. Jemma has a great talent for bringing a song to life. This rare combination gives the song a special kind of atmosphere. As a listener you can really hear the lyrics and become as one with the song. This song is of an extremely high quality. I would definitely give this song ten out of ten. It is one of those songs you hear and instantly fall in love with.

Mistaken is another new song by Jemma Rycroft. This song sees another change in style for Jemma and her vocals. This is perhaps the most mainstream song in Jemma's collection. This song has a nice dreamy quality about it. It is the kind of song you listen to on a summer’s day whilst dipping your toes into the cool clear water of a stream. Jemma's vocals are strong and powerful on this track. This song combines a strong blues feel with a more modern pop sound. This cleverly blended combination of styles is this songs great strength and is what makes this song such a high quality number. The lyrics are so truthful and obviously written from the heart; I am sure a lot of listeners could/can relate to the words in this song. This song is so great because it is not over done; Jemma's voice is clear and not drowned out by loud instruments playing in the background. All you can hear is Jemma and her guitar.

Mistaken and In You are both brilliant songs, top notch in every department. - I cannot praise them highly enough Jemma's vocals are amazing, the lyrics strike a chord with the listener and the music is there but not in your face allowing you as a listener to really listen to the words and the changes in style of Jemma's voice. I love the way Jemma carefully combines pop with blues and comes up with something fresh and totally different in feel from everything else that is around in the music world today.

Jemma's voice is stunning and different from many you will hear today. Her songs carefully mix old with new creating something beautiful and extremely worth listening to. Jemma's music will slip under your skin as soon as you hear it and before you know it you will be captivated. Haunting vocals that will penetrate even the hardest of hearts and make it melt.

Jemma's music is so enchanting to listen to. I like it because it is different from the usual run of the mill stuff in the charts. It has an edge. It is not the same line repeated over and over again with some silly yet annoyingly catchy chorus that you hear once and can't get out of your head for the rest of the day. Her music is of a really high quality. Jemma's songs are full of lyrics that actually mean something, they are not what I would call 'throw away' lyrics that rhyme but mean nothing at all to the listener. Her voice is so unusual as well. I like that it has an old fashioned sound about it one minute and a thoroughly modern sound the next. It has such a superior quality and is so different from most singers around today. It is so exciting to hear Jemma's music and to see what she is going to come up with next as far as style and content. I wish more artists would do that and not all stick to the same bland formula. I know these artists make money and have hits but their songs mean nothing and in a few months time the songs are nothing but a blur in the minds of the listeners where as Jemma's songs are different and will remain in the hearts and souls of the listeners because they have a depth to them and a raw honesty. I like that with Jemma's music you never know quite what you are going to get - a modern song with a dream like quality or a song that sounds like you are dusting off an old vinyl record out of the loft, complete with crackles. I wish more artists would try something different and not just make records that they know are going to sell. The charts are full of the same old stuff; songs that virtually sound the same give or take a few lyrics. The lyrics are dull and meaningless with little emotion or apparent thought but into crafting them. In a few months time the song and in many cases the artist will be long forgotten replaced with another dull sound a like singer after their ten minutes of fame and fortune. It is singers like Jemma Rycroft who deserve to make it big as long as when they make it big they do not compromise and lose their own identify.
