High quality songs with amazing lyrics and atmosphere bring this album to life
Jo Kerr’s debut album release MORNING HAZE offers listeners a collection of eleven self-penned songs all of the highest quality. Jo’s vocals have a raw organic feel. Similarities can be drawn between Jo’s music and that of REM, Crowded House and Grand Drive. The album kicks off with a striking song called Thames Whale. This song has haunting vocals, which are delicate and beautiful to listen to. This is an excellent opening song. The musical backing starts off quite sparse but slowly builds up into something quite atmospheric before dropping back again. The opening of Sunrise makes listeners think they are in for a burst of Neil and Tim Finn. This is a charming song with a laid back feel. The tune is repetitive and the lyrics quite dark. Soon Or Late has a slightly faster beat than the first two songs on the album. This is another vocally strong song. Home Sweet Home has beautifully constructed lyrics. Beautiful World is a striking song and one of the highlights of this amazing album. The lyrics are once again strong and powerful and Jo’s vocals are breathtaking throughout. Satellite once again showcases Jo’s excellent vocals. The backing instrumentation really brings this song to life and gives it a slightly darker feel. This song has a much more rocky edge than the other songs on the album. Night River is another one of Jo’s lyrically driven songs. Shine has an upbeat feel and a catchy melody. Spirit Of Love And Adventure starts off slow and dreamy. Jo’s vocals are quite magnificent. This song is infused with pop and acoustic rock. The title song Morning Haze is extremely atmospheric in sound. Jo’s vocals are enigmatic and infectious. There is some weird humour going on in this song as listeners will discover if they listen closely. The final offering on this splendid album Travelling Light has an edgy acoustic rock feel. This song is rich in atmosphere. Jo’s vocals are once again the highlight of the song. For lovers of good quality singer/songwriter music then this album is a must.
