2009 will be the year everyone gets to know about this lady
Julia Bryan is a brand new female voice on the music scene. After doing non-profit work in Africa Julia has returned home and released a stunning five track EP. Julia’s family and friends have been treated for years to Julia’s unique vocal style but at last, if all goes according to plan, 2009 will be the year that everyone gets to know about her wonderful singing/song writing talents. Recorded at Gunny’s Studio and mastered at Colorado Sound people are expecting great things from this young lady and well they might. With influences like Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, The Judds and Emmylou Harris it is easy to see where Julia gets her inspiration from. Julia has assembled a band, which sees her on lead vocals and rhythm guitar. Jim Dombrowski on bass, Gunny Jeff Norman on lead guitar, Carl Holz on drums and finally Marcie Norman on keys. Julia uses this five song EP to showcase her huge range of vocal styles and talents. No More Hurricanes is an attractive number that sucks the listener in and makes them eager to hear more. Julia’s vocals are soft and gentle yet strangely bold as well. This first song is lively and catchy. Love Is sees Julia blend blues with a folk/pop sound to create something quite remarkable. Julia’s vocals are rich and tender on this earthy number. One Day At A Time highlights Julia’s ability to switch from one style of music to another quite effortlessly. This song has a strong modern country feel to it. A slow song with great musical backing. Pleasant on the ear! Drain has a raw soulful feel to it. Julia’s vocals are raspy on this gentle number. Glory sees Julia change her style once again. This is a traditional Ugandan song, which Julia learned whilst there. This song has a strange hypnotic vibe that leaves the listener feeling relaxed and at ease. Some might feel that this song is out of place on the EP, others might feel it brave of Julia to include such a song. Personally I feel that by including this song on the EP Julia has showed the world the length and breadth of her talents. Julia is a force to be reckoned with as this introduction to her music shows.
