Songs that are a real joy to listen to
American singer/song writer Vicky Emerson has been touring for the past five years as an independent artist. Vicky’s latest album LONG RIDE was produced and engineered by Matt Patrick. Vicky is a classically trained pianist who is influenced by the likes of Lyle Lovett and Lucinda Williams. Her music is a mixture of folk, Americana and country with a small dash of blues and jazz thrown in for good measure. The album kicks off with a pleasant slow song called County Line, a song about travelling down a highway and remembering your first road trip. This song is also about juggling your career and family life. Vicky’s vocals are velvety and rather special. Make Me is another gorgeous song, which again showcases Vicky’s stunning vocals. Vicky’s vocal style reminds me a little of Lucy Kaplansky blended with Mary Chapin Carpenter. The title song Long Ride is another song about being on the road. Vicky’s vocals seem sharper and clearer on this enjoyable number. Every Shade Of Blue is a slinky number, which gives Vicky a chance to show off her sultry, dusky vocals. Hints of blues and jazz are sprinkled throughout this top class song. Ferris Wheel is a poignant song for Vicky as it is dedicated to her father. The lyrics talk about childhood and the innocence you have at that age. Another great song full of emotion. Lazy Day is another slow gentle song with blissful jazz infused vocals. There is a touch of Shelby Lynne in Vicky’s vocal style on this particular number. Winter Wind has a really beautiful sound. Haunting vocals and atmospheric music really bring this enchanting song to life. Next To Me has a more modern feel to it. Vicky’s vocals remind me of Shania Twain on this amazing ballad. The final song on the album is over seven minutes long and was inspired by Vicky’s childhood, growing up in the small village of Elmwood, Wisconsin. Once again Vicky’s vocals are soft and gentle. The whole of this album is beautiful, each and every song is sung with pure intensity and heartfelt vocals. The songs are a real joy to listen to.
