Modern folk and country infused songs done brilliantly
THE ISLAND GOSPEL is the second album by “The Accident That Lead Me To The World”. This album has more of a country feel than the trio’s first album it is also more lyrically based. The album starts off with the title song The Island Gospel. This song has a strong folk/bluegrass feel. Mark Mandeville supplies lead vocals. Raianne Richards harmonises perfectly with Mark during the chorus. Hole Of Doubt has a modern folk feel. Mark and Raianne harmonise again on this musically rich song. Life, As An Anchor has a strong country vibe running through it. Mark’s vocals are quite intoxicating on this gentle song; again he is joined by Raianne on vocals. Caves fuses modern folk with acoustic rock. Raianne and Mark take equal billing on this exciting song. Every so often I am reminded of the hit group Counting Crows. Try Try Try is a much gentler song. Mark’s vocals are quieter and the backing music is lighter. Nervous Hands has a really old fashioned sound. Mark and Raianne’s vocals blend effortlessly together on this enchanting song. Time And Space is another slow paced song with a really strong country/folk sound. One True Word opens with a lovely burst of the clarinet. This is a really great slow country/folk song. The vocals are gentle and filled with charm and character. Light And Orange Flames is a luscious country song, which sees Mark blending his vocals perfectly with Raianne. Statues sees Mark take centre stage once again. This song sees the group return to what they are really good at - modern folk infused songs.
