A great mix of old and new styles
Brook Faulk’s debut album is a highly polished affair containing eleven glorious songs, nine of which are originals. Brook’s sound is a cross between that of Gillian Welch and Reba McEntire. The opening and title song I’m On Fire is a face paced modern country song. It is a bold opening song, which really kick starts the whole album. Arsenic is a wonderfully gentle song with traditional instrumentation. Let’s Get Outta Here is a charming fact paced duet, which features Darrel Bigelow on vocals. Only Me To Blame is a rocky song with just a touch of Tanya Tucker about it. Hell and Highwater is a slower paced song that allows Brook’s glorious vocals to stand out. Runaway Train sees the pace of the album step up a gear once again. This is a catchy modern song with an old fashioned twist. Rain Down is certainly one of the stand out songs on the album. This is a slow haunting song that really grabs the listener. Lowdown, Dirty and Mean is a quality fast song that screams modern country. The real highlight of this album is saved till the very last and it is certainly without a doubt worth waiting for. Ghost Town is a dramatic and extremely powerful song. The music is eerie and Brook’s voice is bold and evocative. Already a number one in the country indie charts this song sees Brook at her very best. This is a blistering song to end this amazing album on.
