Silence - Poem

Silence

Fragile and lost, floating along on the merry-go-round of life
Your eyes tell of sadness and heartbreak
Tragedy and hurt that has left wounds too deep to heal
Scars that rest just below the surface of the skin
Darkness seeps like a poison through every pore of your body
Eats away at every breath you struggle to take
Washes over you like death
A tidal wave of emotion that knocks you off your unsteady feet
Horror and anger, hatred so great
In the mirror he stands beside you
A dark shadow looming over you
A presence only you and you alone can see
The devil can take many forms
A shape shifter he can return to wreak havoc time and time again
Your dreams are filled with fear, sadness and revenge
Daydreams like waking nightmares follow you like a dark cloud waiting to burst forth with heavy rain
Dignity and pride lost at a young age
Scattered like dried up leaves
Innocence used and abused
Discarded like a piece of rotten waste
Your body worthless
A lump of fresh meat
Waiting to be serviced by anyone who comes along
A young girl who might as well be a whore
A kind word or gesture taken to mean so much more
Danger at every turning
Blinkered you do not stop to read the warning signs
Programmed like a robot to obey and do whatever anyone requests
Sex, like running water from a free flowing tap
An action with emotion blocked from the mind
Compartments for each section of every day life
Clinical and methodical
Safer that way
Thinking, a dangerous game
Tortured by demons, echoes from the past still reaching out into the present
Voices, physical people who refuse to go away
Still hurting you every minute of every single day
Taunting you, laughing at your obvious pain
Pain that cuts you to the core
Rips your heart in two
Shreds your insides to ribbons
Angelic features that refuse to glow
Masked by fear and self-loathing
A perfect body nothing more than damaged goods
Seconds on a clothing rail
An animal waiting to go to the slaughter house
Put down for being not quite perfect
Broken, beyond any kind of mental or physical repair
A shell of your former self
Trapped cruelly inside the body of a shell shocked child
A prison made of flesh and bones
Caged by lies and secrets
Images that play on a loop in your mind
Words meant to help and heal do no such thing
Guilt hanging like a tight noose around your flimsy neck
A family torn apart, lives ruined, an explosion that rocked the world
Silence is strangely enough the scariest sound
