Lush and seductive vocals fill this amazing EP
Diana DeGarmo will be a new name to many people in the UK but in the States she is a well known singer having appeared and come runner up on the third series of the popular talent show – American Idol. Diana’s success on the show propelled her first radio single, from her first full-length album, to number one in Billboard’s Hot 100 Singles Sales Chart. There are obvious comparisons between Diana and former American Idol winner Carrie Underwood but personally I feel the two are very different singers both in style and voice. Diana has appeared in the musical Hairspray and is currently appearing as Dorothy in the musical OZ. Adding to her credits Diana has appeared in CMT’s reality show Gone Country. This latest offering from Diana is a four track EP written and recorded in Nashville. As the title suggests this is an unplugged recording, which allows Diana’s vocals to really shine. Gone is the fuss and over production leaving Diana to do all the work. Diana’s vocals are lush and seductive; there is warmth to her music and a lot of depth both in terms of lyrics and quality. This is quite simply amazing stuff and a tantalising treat for fans of good soulful music. Labelled as an EP that will appeal to fans of modern country music Diana’s style I believe will appeal to music fans everywhere. The EP starts off with a vibrant modern country song called Kiss Me. Diana’s vocals are delicate yet strangely powerful and strong. There are hints of Reba McEntire in Diana’s vocals. This opening song would make a great single. Like I’m Not Even There is a song about a romance that has gone sour and how the man in the relationship is carrying on as if nothing has happened. The song starts off slow but picks up pace as it reaches the chorus. Diana’s voice is beautiful and captivating. The third song is certainly one that makes you sit up and take notice. Thank You asks the question how can you really say thank you. Diana is an avid supporter of the American troops and has toured overseas. I wonder if that was the inspiration behind this song. How can you say thank you to a soldier who is willing to give their life to fight for their country? The words here are powerful and very emotive. The final song comes all too quickly. Find Me is another modern country song, which showcase Diana’s clear and crisp voice. Diana is currently working towards releasing a full length country album, which will be written and recorded in Nashville. I just hope she doesn’t keep music lovers waiting too long. Listening to this EP all I can say is WOW!
