Karmine Song Review

Karmine are a stunning rock/pop band from the UK. Karmine’s songs are fresh sounding and evocative. The music combines angst with some really classy vocals. Karmine are made up of Charlotte Kavanagh on lead vocals, Stephen Perry on guitar, Alan Hill on bass and David Eales on drums. Charlotte Kavanagh’s voice is electrifying and lingers on in your head long after each song has ended. Her vocal style has touches of Alannis Morissette but she is her own woman and her vocals show that in abundance. Karmine are still a new band, only formed in the summer of 2009. Charlotte is glamorous and rather beautiful something which can only enhance the appeal of the band as a whole. Karmine’s music blends many styles and sounds together to create material of the highest quality possible. There are touches of blues and Americana mixed in with the bands rock and pop sound. Charlotte’s vocals are strong and soulful breathing much life into each and every one of the bands songs. Charlotte is herself an experienced drummer who turned her hand to vocals just two short years a go. Stephen Perry’s guitar playing has seen him compared to Jeff Buckley. Karmine’s debut EP called FIRE AND ICE has received an enormous amount of critical acclaim. Although Karmine only came together last year all the band members have worked in and around the music industry for some time. The bands influences include Tom Petty, John Mayer, Fleetwood Mac, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Prince. These musical influences do seem to creep through into the bands music helping them to create their own individual sound and style.

Californian Rogue blends edgy vocals full of angst with softer gentle vocals. The song has a rocky beat and is definitely catchy. This is an up-tempo song brought to life by Charlotte’s amazing vocals. Everything blends together wonderfully here – the music, lyrics and vocals. This is a classy rock/pop song. The instrumentation throughout the song is heavy but fits nicely with the mood of the song.

Perpetual Sin is a power packed rock/pop song. Charlotte’s vocals are strong and defined throughout. Here again the backing is heavy, quietening slightly in the chorus of the song. A lovely instrumental section breaks up the song giving it a slight blues feel.

Ballad of a Broken Man is one of those songs that makes you stop and think wow this is good. Charlotte comes into her own on this glorious rock infused ballad. Charlotte’s vocals are simply divine on this track especially during the chorus when the mood slows very slightly. The backing music is heavy but this only adds to the mood of the song. The lyrics are cleverly put together. There is definitely a touch of blues blended into this stunning song.

Pieces of Me is an angst ridden song with a strong rock feel. Charlotte’s vocals are punchy and raw. Charlotte can really belt out a song! The lyrics and music are catchy and infectious. This is one of those songs that quickly gets under your skin.
