An album packed with songs everyone can resonate with
Emily Mitchell is an extremely talented and happily married twenty-four year old female singer based in Rhode Island. She writes all her own music and lyrics. She has played the piano since the ripe old age of four, at nine she mastered the flute and at thirteen the French horn. Studying classical piano, classical voice and jazz voice at college level allowed her to hone her music skills still further. Emily is quoted as saying that she normally writes using her piano but has also been known to use the guitar to add inspiration and a new dimension to her work. Emily is passionate about music and loves to sing, this is in evidence throughout her self-titled debut album. Bob Dylan has been a huge inspiration to Emily alongside The Beatles. Emily’s debut album is full of tracks about love and heartbreak; the songs are full of emotion. These are songs that everyone can resonate with. Emily’s music is a fusion of pop, rock, country, blues and jazz. Baby, No One’s Quite Like You is a fine opening song that sets the high standard for the rest of the album. Emily’s voice is powerful and crisp; the use of the piano gives this song a fresh feel to it. It is like you are watching Emily sing and perform live, the music bursts forth off of the CD and into your living room. Miscommunication is a breezier song with a pop/folk feel. Don’t Make Space is a dramatic ballad with heavy backing from the piano. Let’s Get Back is a catchy song with a truly modern feel. Darlin’ Don’t You Hang Around And Wait For Me has a definite blues feel to it. This is another brilliant song where the music is just as important as the lyrics. What Use Is Love is an angst ridden song full of emotion and raw passion. A soulful number that allows Emily’s fantastic voice to stand tall. Underpaid is a raucous slightly muddily track that needs to be heard a few times before you can enjoy it. I Only Wanted You is a truly mind blowing song that is perfect in every way. One of those songs you just can’t fault. Emily’s vocals are rich and velvety on this very attractive stand out song that deserves to be a big hit in its own right. The final song on this sublime nine track CD entitled When We’re Together is a lively country/pop fused song full of quirky lyrics about relationships. This is one of those albums that are really hard to put down, the lyrics are rich and the music is haunting and constantly adding depth to the songs. A masterpiece!
