Kacey Cubero CD Review

Kacey Cubero
Fill Your Cup
Self-released
*****
An album full of songs you will want to hear again and again
Kacey Cubero is a native of Washington, DC but moved to Southern California, taking with her just a suitcase and guitar. She soon became the front person for a local band. Her first album was critically acclaimed and generally well received. Kacey’s songs have been used in a number of independent films and Singer Magazine has twice named Kacey Indie Artist of the Year. Kacey is always busy writing songs as well as touring and recording. Kacey’s new album FILL YOUR CUP blends Americana with alt-country. Kacey has her own unique style and sound, which has already gained her many fans. The albums title track Fill Your Cup sounds simply amazing and is well worth its place on the album. Kacey’s vocals are soulful, reminiscent in style of Shelby Lynne. This song is strong and worth more than one listen. I Want More is a harsher country song. Kacey’s vocals have a gravely sound on this Lucinda Williams style song. Reserve The Right is a rockier country song, with a soulful edge. Kacey’s vocals change again here and become more forceful and determined. It’s Alright is another Lucinda Williams style song. This song has a catchy hook, which quickly becomes infectious. What If I Really Love You is a slower country song. This is a great song with dazzling vocals. Here again Kacey’s vocals sound gravely. Under My Skin is a great alt-country song. This song brings with it an amazing atmosphere, created by the stunning instrumentation and Kacey’s characteristic vocals. Two Trains is a blues infused country song. This song has quite a heavy feel echoed by Kacey’s outstanding vocals. Old Cadillac is a slower soulful country song. Kacey’s vocals are scintillating and once again I am reminded of Shelby Lynne. Set You Free combined blues and country. The song is quite heavy but Kacey brings the song to life with her vocals. Feather In The Wind is a lighter song with a strong country vibe. This is more of a traditional country song. Kacey’s vocals are a lot softer on this number. Sunday Mornings is a slow country ballad. Kacey’s vocals are gentle and passion filled. Whatcha Gonna Do is the final song on the album and another great one at that. This is another slow burning soulful song, which allows Kacey’s vocals to shine brightly. This is one of those albums you will keep on repeat play for a long time to come. The songs keep getting better and better with every listen.
